Twilight at Kalāhuipua’a
June 10, 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeAloha kakou,
It will be full moon time again which means that we will be having our “talk-story” at the Eva Parker Woods Cottage; an event called “Twilight at Kalāhuipua’a”. This event is a sharing time for our community, hotel guests, hotel and resort associates and family members to gather and enjoy the stories, music and dance that make this such a special place.
This event only takes place once a month around the full moon time between 5:30 p.m.‑ 8:30 p.m., and in the month June, it will be held on Saturday, the 10th. On the Hawaiian calendar, this particular night is called KAʻAONA, in the lunar month MĀHEALANI. For those who come, bring something warm just in case the evening gets cool, especially for the kids. You may also want to bring a flashlight with you if the clouds cover the normally bright moon. I also recommend you bring a bento dinner or “pupus” with you, since the time falls within the dinner hours.
Guests for each month’s storytelling include kupuna and sometimes, local entertainers from this island and on occasion, from outer islands. The purpose of this event is to perpetuate the traditional folk art of storytelling. This would also include music and dance. The preservation of these stories and the information shared is extremely valuable and so the entire event is videotaped for documentation purposes with the consent of the guest speakers, so please, no video-taping.
We are truly looking forward to a magical evening. At this spontaneous event, it is always a great surprise to see who may drop in and share their talents and the Spirit of Aloha.
