Mālama Huilua and Lā Ho’iho’i Ea Celebration

Join the Aloha ʻĀina Project and Hoʻāla ʻĀina Kūpono in a series of Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea celebrations in the valley of Kahana where the community’s ongoing effort to restore life once more to Huiluafishpond is reactivated.

Come for a fun day of work, food, speakers, and music while learning about Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea. Bring your ʻohana and join the restoration of our independence through the resuscitation of our food systems and learn about the history and significance of Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea together.

For 50 years, from 1843-1893, ka Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea celebrated Hawaiian national independence onJuly 31st each year. It was revived by a new generation of aloha ʻāina in 1985. We continue this legacy and in renewing our love for Hawaiian independence. This Huilua fishpond workday is part of a month-long series, building momentum toward ka Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea.

Join us for a day of mālama ʻāina and come learn abut fishpond loving.

  • A 5gal bucket (if you have)
